I was testing the camera, on the Mate 20 Lite, when all of a sudden, the facial recognition box appeared, even though there wasn't another person in the room. Any explaination?

It's always trying to find a face so any shadow or weird lighting that it thinks is a face will bring up the box.

It's just part of the camera intelligence trying to get the right image.

You can always touch focus onto a different spot, useful with a group of people and you want to control the central focus.

The Mate 20 Lite camera can detect ghosts 👻

Joke apart, it's probably just what chillphone said, camera is always trying to identify something if you have the AI option turned on.
