Mate 20 Pro text/call feature not working

I am currently using a Mate 20 Pro for almost 4 months, and just last Friday it stopped receiving calls and texts. I just thought to myself, "maybe no one was texting me at all", and got the feeling there's something wrong so upon trying to text myself, I cannot send any messages at all. I tried borrowing a phone to both call and text my own number, and still not receiving any, saying my number is "unavailable".

Weird thing is, it only happened out of nowhere, while my phone is on my desk while at work. Also, the data feature seems to work fine, just calls and texts are not working.

Troubleshooting steps performed:
Reset network settings - same issue
Cleared cache/data from both Dialer and Messages app - same thing
Factory reset phone - still not receiving texts or calls
Used sim card/s on a different phone - works perfectly fine
Had carrier replace sim card/s - still no issues when inserted on a different phone

Any ideas on how to resolve this issue guys? I'm getting frustrated as it is now 5 days since I started troubleshooting this issue

Hi and welcome to the forums!

A similar issue occured to the user on this thread: https://uk.community.huawei.com/other-smartphones-35/no-network-problem-4670
inserted the sim but it was unable to detect signal. it turned out to be a hardware fault and huawei ended up replacing their phones motherboard.

It can be a hardware related fault you have, It is best to contact huawei support:
https://consumer.huawei.com/uk/support/ and click on "After-sales services" or call 08000 886 700.

do you still have network signal bars on your phone?

Yes, and I can still use my phone (using the same sim card/s data) to browse the net. Apparently they are requesting for me to bring the unit with the box and receipt, whereas it was already lost upon moving homes. Is there any workaround I can do on my own, or any way I can claim warranty without those documents?

we can always try to troubleshoot:
Have you tried to put your phone in aeroplane mode? Restart and disable aeroplane mode.
Is your wi-fi calling on? Try disabling it for the time being.

Yup, I have tried putting it on Airplane Mode multiple times because I thought it was only a signal issue. Wifi I also tried to disable Wifi calling and same issue. I also tried disabling Carrier Aggregation just in case it may fix the issue, but to no avail.

Just an update, I tried buying a new prepaid SIM just for troubleshooting purposes, which also is from a different carrier than the SIM cards I previously used, and surprisingly I can now make and receive texts/calls!

I am now unsure if it is an issue with my original SIM (but I doubt as it is already replaced, and it also works on other phones), or if it is an issue with my phone not registering any services from the said carrier.
Friends, just 2 days ago i touched permissions section in settings and now i cant send or receive text messages in my Mate 20 pro. All permissions restored but still having problem. Please advise

what network is your phone on? I found possible solution on the ee forums last night , that if you are on ee try choosing manually o2 as the carrier or vice versa, they claimed it solved their problem. worth a try. more of it here: https://community.ee.co.uk/t5/Texting-and-messaging/Not-receiving-texts-or-calls/m-p/657595/highlight/true#M5889
Dear All,

Great thanks for your comments and feedback. I followed your advice and the root cause was fb messenger app as I recently installed it. Looks like it took privilege on my text messaging app. Despite I checked in settings the text messaging was default but both messenger were not active so I delete fb messenger and reinstalled again. While installing fb messenger I set text messaging as default once again...SO IT WORKS NOW!
