A number of people have asked for improvements to the standard apps and while it's worth asking, it's a good idea to have a browse on the Play Store.
It's likely that any feature missing from the standard apps will have been catered for by a developer on the Play Store.
Often you can get a free version with ads to try out, then if you buy, it's only a few quid.
In my view, the stock (standard) apps are usually very 'bare bones' in their features but Play Store apps are pretty whizzy.

Personally I quite like Open Camera, Chomp SMS, Navmii, Smart Recorder (sound), QuickEdit and Notepad but there's plenty to choose from.
